Nigerian Dental Association (NDA) is the authoritative national voice of dentistry, a non-governmental and non-profit oriented organization dedicated to the representation and advancement of the profession, nationally and internationally, and to the achievement of optimal oral health.
NDA was founded in 1967 at Lagos Nigeria by a handful of dentists practicing in the then federal capital of Nigeria; membership has since increased to about 3200 members practicing locally and in Diaspora. Membership comprises of dentists in public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy, membership is automatic after graduation from any of the accredited dental schools in Nigeria, and upon application by foreign trained dentists who wish to practice in Nigeria
NDA serves its members and the public by managing key oral health issues on their behalf and by coordinating dental health awareness programs across the nation. On going oral health campaign are Brush twice daily and Live Learn and Laugh.
INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATIONS- NDA is affiliated to FDI (Federation Dental international), ARO (African regional organization of FDI) and the Common Wealth Dental Association.
Nigerian Dental Association works in close relationship with other stake holders in oral health in Nigeria, this include the States and Federal Ministries of Health, health agencies locally and internationally, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Oral Care Products Manufacturers and Marketers who have their products endorsed by the association
NDA periodically engage in the training and retraining of her members through the CEP programme (Continuing Dental Education Programme) also engage in research works.
The affairs of the association is run by elected executive members who renders account at annual general meetings of the association.
